Albion's under-21s were beaten 1-0 at Stoke today in Simon Rusk's first match in caretaker charge.
A 63rd minute penalty, conceded by Will Collar for a trip and converted by Tomi Adeloye, sentenced the Seagulls to their first defeat in four games in division two of the Premier League.
Under-18s coach Rusk has taken temporary control of the under-21s following Simon Ireland's move to QPR.
His side almost went ahead in the first half when a long range strike by Charlie Harris hit a post.
The result lifts Stoke off the foot of the table and level on points with eighth-placed Albion, with an inferior goal difference but a game in hand.
