David Stockdale ended a long Albion wait today - by saving a penalty.

The Seagulls keeper got down sharply to his left to keep out a spot kick by Paul Caddis of Birmingham.

Albion fans had not seen a penalty save by one of their keepers at home since John Sullivan denied Luciano Becchio of Leeds in a 2-0 defeat at Withdean in January 2009.

It was the first penalty save anywhere by an Albion keeper since Peter Brezovan thwarted Luis Suarez in front of the Kop in an FA Cup tie three years ago.

Before today's drama, the last penalty let-off for Albion in league action came when Liam Lawrence hit the post for Portsmouth at Fratton Park in August 2011.

A Seagulls keeper had not saved a league penalty since Brezovan thwarted Pawel Abbott in a 2-0 win at Oldham in March 2010.

The Slovak also saved a penalty on his debut at Exeter earlier in the 2010-11 campaign.
