Inigo Calderon has urged Albion to secure their Championship safety as soon as possible.
The Spaniard scored twice on his 200th appearance for the Seagulls to help get a much-needed 4-3 victory over Birmingham City at the Amex on Saturday.
The result lifted Albion three points above the drop-zone ahead of the visit of Leeds United tomorrow but Calderon has warned they cannot afford to relax.
He said: “It was a massive win but our position (in the table) is still really, really bad because as soon as you don’t win one game you are there (in the bottom three) again. We have to make sure we win the next game now. We have 14 games to go so we have to make sure we do everything we can to escape danger as soon as possible.
“If you are still down there going into the last six or seven games it becomes a real battle and small mistakes can cost you so much so if we can escape as soon as we can it will be a lot easier.”
Calderon’s brace wrapped up only a fourth home league win of the season and the 33-year-old is aware Albion must improve that record if they are to stay up.
He added: “We have to do better at home. We have to make the Amex a fortress where people have to struggle to get something.”
