Midfielder Lee Fowler admitted Crawley only had themselves to blame for slipping back into the relegation zone.
Crewe’s shock 2-1 win at Sheffield United lifted them back above Crawley ahead the clash between the sides at Gresty Road on Good Friday.
Fowler said: “We gifted them three points rather than them playing well. They started off brightly in the first half but I thought we dominated the second half and all they had was the counter-attack.
“The performance was a bit slow and laboured from us and we have shot ourselves in the foot. We had the momentum at 1-1 and we were thinking we were going to win the game.
“It seems that we go a goal behind and it kicks us into gear.
“But we must regroup and go again at Crewe.”
