Albion look like facing the rest of their Championship survival fight without their top league scorer Joao Teixeira.
The six-goal Portuguese loanee from Liverpool was stretchered off with a right ankle injury in the second half of last night’s 0-0 draw against Huddersfield at the Amex.
Teixeira hurt himself in a tackle on Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells which earned the young attacking midfielder a booking.
Boss Chris Hughton said: “He has gone to hospital for an X-ray. We are obviously hoping that it’s not a bad one. It was his ankle.”
Concern about Teixeira was compounded by the result, which stretched Albion’s run without a goal to four games. They are seven points clear of third-bottom Millwall, who beat Saturday’s doomed hosts Wigan 2-0 at home and have a match in hand.
Hughton said: “It’s exactly the same and still in our own hands.”
