Sussex supporters will get the first look at Mahela Jayawardene in a Sharks kit today – and won’t have to pay a penny for the privilege.

The legendary Sri Lanka batsman will feature in a Twenty20 friendly between a strong Sussex side and a Sussex League outfit at Hove as part of preparations for the NatWest T20 Blast.

Entry is free for the game which starts at 12pm and will be only Jayawardene’s second ever appearance at Hove having made 45 for the Sri Lankans in a touring match back in 2006.

It will also be the 37-year-old’s first action since Sri Lanka were knocked out of the World Cup by South Africa in March.

Jayawardene is available for the first seven games of Sussex’s Twenty20 campaign, which begins with a trip to Canterbury next Friday, before leaving to take part in the Caribbean Premier League when he will be replaced by Australia T20 captain George Bailey.
