Inigo Calderon is lining up a career in coaching – but only after piling up more appearances for Albion.

The popular right-back is preparing for another season with the Seagulls after agreeing a one-year deal.

He has also set the ball rolling for a new career after playing by studying coaching methods in Holland.

Calderon has spent the first part of his summer break with former Albion coach Joaquin Gomez visiting highly regarded youth set-ups at AZ Alkmaar and PSV.

A source close to both men said: “Calde plans to go into coaching – that’s his idea.

“But for now he feels fit and strong to keep playing a lot of games for Brighton.

“Some people want to retire him already but he played 40 games last season and he can still do that next year.

“He feels he can keep going for three or four years.

“He has been to Holland to look at how some clubs work there and ultimately he wants to become a coach.”

The hugely popular Calderon, who is now back in his home city of Vitoria, was always expected to agree terms with Albion although he is believed to have fielded an enquiry for his services from overseas.

He will face greater competition for a place next term with Chris Hughton likely to strengthen his squad on the right flank among other areas.

Meanwhile, young Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton has highlighted the contribution made by Casper Ankergren behind the scenes.

The Dane has also agreed a new one-year contract, despite only making one Championship appearance since April 2013.

Walton, who is likely to play for England under-20s in the Toulon tournament this month, said: “Casper brings experience, he is a good guy to have at the club.”

Walton and Jake Forster-Caskey will attend an England training camp at St George’s Park next week, when the latter will learn if he is in the inital 30-man squad for this summer’s European under-21 finals.

Derby County and Fulham were last night being linked with Albion defender Lewis Dunk.
