Crawley Town have cooled their interest in Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton.

Reds boss Mark Yates had enquired about taking the England under-20 international on a season-long loan but is understood to have switched his attention to another target.

Yates is hoping to bring in an experienced No.1 for the start of the League Two campaign following the departure of Brian Jensen at the end of last season.

The Crawley chief is also running the rule over former Wales under-19 international Callum Preston and ex-AFC Wimbledon stopper Ross Warner to provide back-up in the goalkeeping department.

Preston,19, was released by Birmingham City at the end of last season and has had loan spells with Worcester City and AFC Telford while Warner, 25, has previously played for Charlton, Aldershot and Woking.

Yates has also ruled out signing former Swindon and Portsmouth centre-back Joe Devera who was among a number of trialists as Reds returned for pre-season training last week.

Former Tottenham and Southampton striker Lee Barnard, 30, will continue to train with Crawley this week as he bids to earn a deal following his release by Southend at the end of last season.

If Barnard does become Crawley’s fifth signing of the summer it would leave Yates with five strikers on his books following the arrival of former Albion striker Shamir Fenelon to go with Izale McLeod, Gavin Tomlin and Matt Harrold.
