Gordon Greer has hailed the Albion squad as the strongest in his time at the club.

The Seagulls have won League One and finished in the top six in the Championship twice in Greer’s five seasons as skipper. He believes the current group leading the Championship under Chris Hughton has more depth than ever before.

Greer told The Argus: “I think it’s possibly the strongest squad I’ve been involved in. We’ve had strong squads in the past but maybe not as big. There’s competition all over the park for places and not just somebody there, somebody who is pushing those who are playing.

“If you are in the team and not doing as well as you possibly should be there’s somebody there who can step in and make it difficult for you.

“It’s a really strong squad. We’ve got good strength in depth and a lot of options, different options for different games.”

Albion are without wingers Kazenga LuaLua and Jamie Murphy through injury and suspension for Cardiff’s visit to the Amex today.

Depending on Hughton’s selection, they could still have £5 million-rated centre-half Lewis Dunk, £1.5 million signing Elvis Manu and striker legend Bobby Zamora on the bench.
