Albion are preparing for a quiet loan deadline day – barring an unexpected charge of heart from Bournemouth.

The Seagulls are unlikely to make a temporary signing before the window closes at 5pm.

Albion remain interested in bringing striker Glenn Murray back to Sussex but his Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe holds the key to such a deal and is still unwilling to let him go.

The Argus understands manager Chris Hughton has not requested any last-minute recruits although the club will remain alert to possible signings until business closes.

They would be willing to listen to clubs looking to give young goalkeeper Christian Walton a chance of first team action but no firm offers have been forthcoming.

The Seagulls are happy with their recent performances in all areas of the pitch and would be cautious about unbalancing a tightly knit squad at such a key time of the season.

Even if Albion do not do any business today, Hughton’s options are set to increase for the promotion run-in with defender Uwe Huenemeier making encouraging progress in his recovery from a groin problem. Huenemeier’s impending return played a part in their decision to allow Glenn Rea to go on loan to Luton Town.

Andrew Crofts, the other player sent out on loan – to Gillingham – last week, could make his Wales comeback tonight. He is in the squad to face Northern Ireland in a friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium, scene of his most recent Seagulls outing in last month’s 4-1 defeat.
