David Stockdale has revealed the reassuring message he will give Albion team-mates in the pre-match huddle at the Riverside.

The Seagulls goalkeeper is delighted to hear his side’s chances of claiming automatic promotion being played down as they plan for a must-win last-day decider against Middlesbrough.

And he reckons that might work to the visitors’ advantage at the moment of truth.

Stockdale, a last-day promotion winner with Hull City in 2013, said: “How do we beat Middlesbrough? By doing exactly the same as normal.

“I’ll say the same as I said in the huddle before the Derby game. This is just another game.

“I hope people write us off and we will show what Brighton are.”

Albion will chase a tenth away win on Saturday, a tally which would better both their recent play-off seasons.

Boro fans are being urged to create an atmosphere which unsettles both the visiting team and referee Mike Dean.

Aitor Karanka’s men have lost just twice at home this season in the Championship.

But Stockdale believes Albion’s familiarity with success on the road will help them keep their cool.

He added: “All we have to do is win.

“I know it sounds simple and people get worried and carried away.

“But if you get worried and carried away you forget it’s just one win – and why can’t you win?”
