ALBION are set to sign young defender Tyler Forbes from Fleetwood Town.

The Seagulls have agreed a five-figure fee with the League One Lancastrians for the 20-year-old right-back, The Argus understands.

Albion boss Chris Hughton revealed to The Argus last week his aim to sign another full-back.

He currently has three players for two positions –Bruno, Liam Rosenior and Gaetan Bong – after Inigo Calderon was released at the end of last season.

Forbes is likely to begin at Albion on the fringes of first team involvement in the under-21s. He has made 33 appearances over the last two seasons in the third tier for Fleetwood.

Town have Connor McLaughlin, who was at the Euro finals in France for Northern Ireland, and that has prevented Forbes from playing more matches since moving from Preston two years ago. Fleetwood launched Leicester and England striker Jamie Vardy’s rise from rags to riches.

Albion will be hoping Forbes can eventually progress with them in similar vein to Connor Goldson, the centre-half they signed from Shrewsbury last summer.

Goldson’s partner, Lewis Dunk, was recently the subject of a rejected £5 million bid from Crystal Palace.

Palace paid twice as much yesterday for central defender James Tomkins from West Ham.
