Queen's Park Rangers have condemned one of their supporters for sending an abusive message to Albion star Anthony Knockaert.

The French ace responded angrily to a Tweet from Josh Painter, referring to the recent death of his father.

Now the Loftus Road club have condemned the original tweet as “deplorable” and said they will take “appropriate action”.

In a letter to complainants, Luc Turnbull of QPR wrote: “We pride ourselves as a family club and such comments will not be tolerated in any way, shape or form. Fortunately the vast majority of our fanbase have been quick to condemn such comments.”

Knockaert kissed and held aloft a photo of his recently deceased dad Patrick after scoring the final goal in the 3-0 win over QPR at the Amex on Tuesday.

A QPR spokesman confirmed to The Argus: “We are in the process of making contact with the individual in question.”

Knockaert has expressed his gratitude to Albion fans, staff and team-mates for helping him deal with the loss of his father and believes he is now returning to his best form. His goal against QPR was his second in the last two games.

Knockaert tweeted in response to Painter: “You are the worse person in life! Don’t worry there is a god for everything.”
