ALBION are weighing up their goalkeeping options after an injury to No.2 Niki Maenpaa.

The Finn was forced off with shoulder damage in the FA Cup defeat at Lincoln City.

The Seagulls may, depending on how serious Maenpaa’s injury is, make an emergency move into the transfer market before the window shuts tomorrow night for cover for David Stockdale.

Alternatively, they can recall England under-21s keeper Christian Walton from his season-long loan with Luton Town.

Manager Chris Hughton has not ruled out a late bid to land an experienced understudy for Stockdale.

He told The Argus: “We would probably have to if we felt it (Maenpaa’s injury) was going to be a problem. At the moment it’s too soon to tell. It might be something that will keep him out for one or two games or maybe not even that.

“Until I find out then it’s a difficult one. We’ll have to take what ever measures we have to take.”

Casper Ankergren, 37, made his first appearance since August 2014 in place of Maenpaa at Lincoln, with Stockdale rested.

Meanwhile, Albion have shrugged off speculation linking Chelsea with interest in making Stockdale the second-choice keeper at Stamford Bridge if they cannot clinch a deal for Celtic’s Craig Gordon.

Stockdale’s name was not mentioned during more than two weeks of talks between the Seagulls and Chelsea over the loan switch to the Amex for the rest of the season of 19-year-old defender Fikayo Tomori.

Stockdale and Maenpaa are both out of contract in the summer.
