Glenn Murray is on course to be hotter than Curry after scoring again for promotion-bound Albion.

The striker slotted his 20th goal of the season two minutes into last night’s 3-1 win over Birmingham at the Amex.

He is the first Albion player to reach that mark at Championship level since Bill Curry, who finished with 23 in 1959-60.

Murray still has six matches to overhaul Curry’s tally.

Boss Chris Hughton said: “He has a knack, even in games where perhaps he doesn’t play so well, and he can score different types of goals.

“Certainly a lot of them are poacher-type goals. You look at Saturday (Blackburn) and that’s Glenn for you, really good movement in the six-yard box, anticipating, and a really calm finish.

“He’s been a really good acquisition for us. Twenty-goal strikers are really difficult to find.

“He has been good for us and the team have been good for him. It’s the same with Chris Wood at Leeds. Providing he is in a team that’s playing well, Glenn will always score goals.”

Tomer Hemed added his 14th of the season and Uwe Huenemeier his first goal for Albion in the space of six minutes at the start of the second half to lift them back to the top of the table.

They are two points ahead of Newcastle, who host Burton tonight, and ten clear of Reading in third, but Hughton is still keeping his feet firmly on the floor.

He said: “We’ve put ourselves in a good position but Huddersfield have two games in hand, Reading are going very well.

“There are too many good teams pushing to think that anything is going to be comfortable.”
