Seb Pocognoli has put his future on hold to help Albion to promotion and the title.

The on-loan left-back becomes a free agent in the summer when his contract ends with parent club West Brom.

Pocognoli, 29, said: “I’m not really looking at that at the moment. I want to try and finish the season as well as I can here and to be champions, to go away with a good feeling.

“After that it’s up to the club to decide. I’m a free agent and we will see, but I’m very happy here. The team is so incredible and it’s a nice club.”

Albion could be promoted as soon as Good Friday if Huddersfield lose at home to Preston and they win subsequently at Wolves.

Pocognoli is taking nothing for granted after helping them pull further clear with a stunning free-kick at QPR, his first goal for seven years.

The Belgian defender told The Argus: “The last one was for Standard Liege and it was better, a very nice shot! I would prefer not to wait as long for the next one.

“I likes this one, because it was so important for the final push. Huddersfield are still alive and still pushing.

“We are keeping quiet in the dressing room. We don’t check too much about what has happened and concentrate game after game. The staff are very good at that.”

Pocognoli, starved of game time at West Brom before signing last summer, made his 17th league appearance of the season at QPR.

“It was not easy in terms of fitness, coming back from nowhere,” he said. “I really struggled with fitness at the start of the season and I worked so hard. I had a run of ten games and tried to do my best. We have a big squad, so the gaffer can make some decisions. I’m very happy up to now. I am really enjoying my football, that’s the most important thing.”

Boss Chris Hughton has full-back choices to make at Wolves after rotating in recent games.

Pocognoli replaced fit-again Gaetan Bong at Loftus Road after he had been rested himself following a return from groin trouble.

He said: “It was a good decision, because I’ve come back from injury, Liam, Gaetan and Bruno also. He has protected us and the team. I’m very happy about that and I was refreshed.”
