TOMER HEMED has been handed a chance to press his claims for a place in Albion’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

The Israeli target man is set to start in Sunday’s showpiece friendly against Atletico Madrid at the Amex (4pm).

Glenn Murray will be available for City’s visit six days later following his late red card in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Girona in Spain.

Murray is, however, suspended for the clash against Atletico as a result of his controversial dismissal in Palamos for two bookings. With Sam Baldock still sidelined by a calf injury, that leaves Hemed as the only out-and-out striker available to Chris Hughton.

The Israel international has played a full part in Albion’s pre-season programme, despite a £4 million bid from Reading which was rejected last month.

Hemed, 30, scored against Atletico during his time in La Liga with Real Mallorca. He also played against them for Almeria before joining the Seagulls two seasons ago.

Atletico arrive at the Amex after criticism from Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp over the negative nature of their victory in the four-club Audi Cup in Germany.

Diego Simeone’s side beat Liverpool on penalties in Wednesday’s final at the Allianz Arena.

Klopp said they “only wanted to win the cup” and described the match as “offence against defence”.

Diego Godin will be available to Simeone. The Uruguayan was sent-off in Atletico’s win against Napoli in the Audi Cup, which also featured hosts Bayern Munich.
