Albion are fuming after the president of FC Zurich branded them “amateurish and unprofessional” over the collapsed £10 million signing of Raphael Dwamena.

Zurich chief Ancillo Canepa has hit out at the Seagulls for abandoning the deal for the 21-year-old Ghana striker when medical checks revealed a heart problem.

Zurich’s own tests in the spring identified an issue, which they did not deem serious enough to stop Dwamena continuing his career.

Canepa, speaking after Zurich’s 1-1 draw with Lucerne, labelled Albion’s behaviour “amateurish and unprofessional” in interviews with the Swiss media.

He said: “There are always a lot of differences between the players.

“It is crucial whether these are performance-reducing or harmful to health.

“I am glad Raphael is back, because we have ambitious goals.”

Albion have refused to comment publicly on Canepa’s outburst, but The Argus understands they are shocked and concerned by his reaction.

The Seagulls use MRI scans when a problem is highlighted after initial testing and a top specialist to review the results.

Zurich are conducting fresh medical tests on Dwamena before releasing him for World Cup qualifying duty with Ghana.
