Albion have completed the capture of Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul on loan from Premier League rivals Newcastle for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old's switch south reunites him with Seagulls boss Chris Hughton, who he played under from 2008 to 2010 on Tyneside.

Albion have been keen to add a third keeper to the squad alongside Mathew Ryan and Niki Maenpaa.

They almost signed ex-Spurs loan signing Paul Lopez from Espanyol earlier this week.

Krul has been at Newcastle for 11 years. He is under contract until next summer, but has been left in the wilderness under Rafa Benitez, training for most of the summer with the under-23s and falling behind Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and England under-20s prospect Freddie Woodman.

Krul told The Argus: "In the beginning I was still involved but they decided they wanted to go in a different direction. It was a shame it had to end like that.

"I had a great time there. I would have liked to have finish on a positive, but I will always have a positive view on Newcastle.

"They've brought me everything I could wish for, so I could never have any regrets, eleven beautiful years, but Brighton is another family club and has a great set up to look ahead. The aim should be to stay up and it's got everything to stay there."

Krul had loan spells at Ajax and AZ Alkmaar last season, proving his fitness after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament on international duty in October 2015.
