Former Premier League striker Marcus Bent has signed for Southern Combination division one side Wick.

Bent, 39, who includes Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Ipswich and Birmingham among his former clubs, is awaiting international clearance as his last club was Indonesian Super League outfit Mitra Kukar.

The striker is dropping down as he is good friends with new Wick chairman Rodney Lampton, who he grew up with in Hammersmith.

The former England under-21 will not play every game but Bent will help out manager Lee Baldwin as the club plots a route out of the division.

Lampton said: “This is a statement of our intent on the direction in which we want to take this football club.

“The facilities here are already of a good standard, but we plan to improve further on what we have and make this club a real force, and getting Marcus on board is just the beginning.

“We want buy in from everyone to help us achieve what we think and where we can take this club, I’m excited to get started.”

Bent played more than 550 professional games and scored 113 goals during his professional career.
