ALBION marksman Glenn Murray is on the brink of his best-ever season in the Premier League.

Murray scored his sixth goal of the Seagulls’ debut campaign in Monday’s 2-2 home draw against his former club Bournemouth.

The target man hit seven for Monday’s FA Cup visitors Crystal Palace in 2014-15, when he also scored goals in the Championship on loan to Reading.

Murray is joint top scorer with Southampton striker Charlie Austin and Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure among the 11 clubs involved in the battle to avoid relegation.

The 16 players above him in the Premier League scoring chart play for the top nine teams.

Manager Chris Hughton is weighing up whether to use Murray in Monday’s third round tie against Palace at the Amex or rest him and recall Tomer Hemed to the starting line-up.

Albion have a key game away to next-to-bottom West Brom five days after Palace’s visit.

Palace chief Roy Hodgson has already pledged to give fringe players game time against Albion.

Palace, a point and two places below the Seagulls in the bottom half of the table, host Burnley on January 13.
