ALBION want to add Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic to their strike force.

But they will have to up their offer to stand any chance of landing the Serbian international centre-forward.

A bid reportedly submitted by the Seagulls is well below Newcastle’s £15 million valuation, according to a north-east source.

Newcastle will also need a target of their own to fall into place before they would be prepared to sell to a Premier League relegation rival.

Albion and ex-Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is keen for another addition to his attacking options before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month following the club record £14 million capture of Jurgen Locadia from PSV Eindhoven. The Dutchman will not be available to make his debut for another two to three weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Former Albion marksman Leo Ulloa is also on the target list but Leicester want to sell, not lend, and a deal for the Argentinian is thought to be unlikely.

Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Anderlecht two-and-a-half years ago for £13 million. He scored nine goals in his first season as they were relegated from the Premier League and was on target six times in 25 outings last season, when they pipped Albion to the Championship title.

The 23-year-old target man has gradually fallen out of favour at St James’ Park under Rafa Benitez.

He has scored once in six Premier League substitute appearances this season and is eager for more game time in the build-up to the World Cup in Russia with Serbia in the summer.

Albion are 16th, a point above the relegation zone and immediately below Newcastle on goal difference.
