RONNIE DAVIES admitted he was “bitterly disappointed” with Chris Eubank Jr’s performance and he did not listen to what he was being told by his corner.

Eubank Jr’s unconventional training set-up has been widely criticised as he insists he does not need to be told what to do by his father, Chris senior, nor vastly experienced Davies.

And he came in for stinging criticism from Prince Naseem – who said he should quit after only the second loss of his career.

But trainer Davies said: “Groves fought the right fight and Eubank fought the wrong fight. The frustrating thing is he beat himself.

“It’s so frustrating when you have a boy of that talent not listening. His father and me kept saying, you have got to close him down because you’re letting him fight his fight.

“If you don’t close him down he will make it a fight at distance which he wants.“

Davies did not use the cut as mitigation for the nature of the defeat.

He said: “It’s a cut but you have to get over that, there’s no excuse.”
