Boss Chris Hughton is relying on Albion’s home run to ease them towards Premier League safety - without the need for clappers.

Four of the next five games are at the Amex, beginning with today’s key visit of Swansea.

The Seagulls also host Arsenal, Leicester and Huddersfield in a sequence interrupted only by a trip to Everton.

Hughton told The Argus: “That will be vitally important for us. We’ve had some decent performances away from home and there have probably been a couple of results away that some might not have expected at the time.

“But our strength over a season, particularly as a team new to the division, was always going to be at home.”

West Brom handed out clappers to supporters when they beat Albion at the Hawthorns last month but Hughton is not a fan of artificial atmosphere techniques.

He said: “There will be lots of clubs who do different things with the crowd, from banners to clappers.

“But ultimately you have to lift the supporters. It’s always been that way, irrespective of where you are.

“You have to lift them with a team that is motivated and shows it on the pitch. We’ve had fantastic support this season, we really have - and away from home too when we’ve been to bigger stadiums.

“It’s an indication that our fans are happy with what they’ve seen.

“Whatever you put on at a stadium, the biggest thing that can get a crowd to their feet is a performance - or a team which is trying to give a performance.”

Albion are four places but only two points above the relegation zone.

They finish the season against four of the top six, together with trips to Crystal Palace and Burnley.

Hughton said: “If you had said would I be happy to be above this club, this club and this club, it would be an absolute yes. So overall I’m fairly satisfied but we are in a precarious position, the same as a lot of other clubs.

“We need to make sure that, in this group of teams, we do better than some and as well as others.”
