Albion teen Reece Meekums is thriving on regular league action.

That is the verdict of former Seagulls defender Adam Hinshelwood, now manager at Worthing.

Hinshelwood has taken the versatile Meekums under his wing during a loan spell at the Bostik Premier outfit.

Meekums showed his talents to the full in an impressive 2-1 win over leaders Billericay last Saturday.

He then scored at Staines in a midweek 3-3 draw as Rebels close in on safety.

Hinshelwood believes experience of a survival fight will stand Meekums in good stead.

He said: “Meeks has got so much more belief in himself at the moment because he is getting a run of games.

“I think with these young lads, they need to be playing games.

“They get that belief from playing and learning the game.

“Too many of them don’t play enough football.

“That experience he is getting from playing games is really standing him in good stead.”

Meekums started in attack against Billericay but then switched to wing-back.

He shone out wide before a crowd of almost 1,200, including coach Vic Bragg from the Albion academy.

Hinshelwood said: “That just highlights what he does.

“He started the game at No.10, behind the striker, and then we were able to move him to wing-back.

“He has got real quality but it’s just about his confidence.

“I think sometimes, if he misplaces a pass, he can be harsh on himself and can be his worst critic.

“But, if you can get him confident and on fire, he is a really talented boy. That is why he is playing at the level he is.”
