Mathew Ryan said Albion got what they deserved as their unbeaten run ended at Everton.
The Seagulls goalkeeper’s brilliant late penalty save from Wayne Rooney proved in vain as his side went down 2-0.
He said: “We got we deserved.
“Our principles are there and they are the reasons we have had some success over the last few weeks.
“It’s a lesson that when you are not up to those levels days like this happen.
“Hopefully it’s a lesson we can all learn from and quickly.”
Ryan felt Albion never really got going.
He said: “When we have a game like today, when we give them so many occasions to get into our final third, we are only asking for trouble.
“We allowed them to dictate too much and we always felt on the back foot.”
