Jose Izquierdo has revealed it’s good to talk as he looks to improve his understanding with Glenn Murray.

The Albion winger believes their double act can only improve.

And he has told how past experience with a Watford striker has given him an idea of what his centre-forward wants.

Izquierdo’s link with Murray brought the penalty which secured a precious 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

That point has left Albion on the brink of safety as they go to Burnley on Saturday.

Murray has made sure there is plenty of communication between the duo.

Izquierdo told The Argus: “We try to help each other mutually and it is going better and better.

“I know the ability Glenn has and his virtues in front of goal.

“He knows the speed I’ve got and what I can do when I get the ball.

“We are still working on the combination we have together to bring as much danger as we can.

“We always talk – where he wants me to move, where I need him to support me and we are understanding each other more and more.

“We got that penalty against Tottenham because we had been talking before the match and we knew more or less what the other one was going to do to hurt them.”

Izquierdo said his time at Club Brugge with Obbi Oulare, the 6ft 4in striker currently on loan from Watford to Antwerp, has helped him.

The Colombian star added: “He was a similar target man, a big No.9.

“He wanted the ball to feet and he knew how to keep it. He usually put away his chances.

“I think Glenn has the same virtues.

“I have to know how he plays and in which position he feels the best.”

Asked recently by The Argus about the link-up, Murray said: “Jose has been a huge part of the team and our upward curve in the second half of the season.

“He’s a big threat for us and not only me, but the whole team are getting used to playing with him.

“We obviously know what he’s very good at, and I’m just trying to get a good understanding with him.

“Sometimes partnerships form quickly, overnight like mine with Pascal (Gross). But sometimes they take a little bit more work, possibly like mine with Anthony (Knockaert) last season.

“But I’m sure me and Jose will get better and better the more we continue to play together.”
