Dale Stephens says toppling Manchester United at the Amex would be the perfect way for Albion to seal Premier League safety.

Today marks the 21st anniversary of the Seagulls sneaking a draw at Hereford to stay in the Football League.

Defeating United tomorrow night will keep them in the Premier League with two games to spare, away to champions Manchester City and Champions League finalists Liverpool.

Midfielder Stephens told The Argus: "It can be a one-off game, potentially a cup final atmosphere. If you manage to win you stay up.

"It's added motivation on our behalf but we've got three games to do what we need to do.

"I am sure everyone in the squad is full of confidence we can do it. It would be a memorable night for everybody, top off all the hard work that's gone on during the season, even in pre-season.

"If you could pick a game to do it, it would be Man United at Amex."

Stephens believes Albion can take heart from pushing United hard twice at Old Trafford this season, in the League and quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

"It's not an easy place to go to," he said. "It can be daunting, especially for a promoted club coming into the division for the first time.

"We held our own that day and in the Cup too. I am very confident we can put on a good performance."

Stephens is wary of Jose Mourinho's side, even though they have second place almost wrapped up, are likely to be without injured top scorer Romelu Lukaku and could have one eye on the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

He said: "The manager they've got and the players they've got, you don't play for Man United if you are going to rest on your laurels.

"You don't get to that sort of level if you don't go out to prove you are a top player in every game."
