Albion prospect Haydon Roberts could play for the under-23s, hours after receiving his GCSE results.

The 16-year-old Brightonian central defender made his debut for Simon Rusk's side as a second half substitute for Ben White in Monday night's 1-1 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Under-18's ace Roberts went on the under-23s pre-season trip to Portugal.

He found himself playing alongside £17 million record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Jurgen Locadia and Beram Kayal against Arsenal.

Roberts could feature again against Spurs at Stevenage FC (7pm) on Friday - the day he gets his exam results.

Substitute Aaron Connolly's stoppage time equaliser at the Emirates made it two draws out of two for Rusk's promoted team.

The Argus: Rusk (above) said: "We've had two really tough games - Liverpool (0-0) and Arsenal to start, and with Tottenham and Manchester City coming up as well, it was always going to be difficult.

"We have to be pleased that we're undefeated and had chances in both games to win them.

"There are lots of areas for us to improve on - it is a step up in quality and athleticism, and we've had to work hard for our two draws."

The Argus: Republic of Ireland striker Connolly (above) shrugged off the disappointment of not making the starting line-up after taking over from James Tilley.

Rusk said: "When you're a striker, you want to be starting games. The players will be desperate to play in these types of games at places such as the Emirates.

"I'm sure it was a disappointment for him to not start, but he came on and showed a great attitude.

"He got his reward - he's been in the right areas over the last few games and hasn't had the rub of the green, so I'm really pleased for Aaron that he got his goal."
