Sussex-born trainer John Gosden was in the winner’s enclosure in the first race at Royal Ascot as Palace Pier won the Queen Anne Stakes.
The four-year-old was sent off as the 2/7 favourite and looked in control before taking the lead with two lengths to go and won by a length to Lope Y Fernendez, who was ridden by Brighton-born jockey Ryan Moore.
