Brighton chairman Tony Bloom's horse Withhold is in action at Newbury this afternoon (2:25pm).

The 11-year-old will run in the Bahrain Turf Series Handicap which is run over two miles and half-a-furlong, with the race being shown live on ITV.

Brighton jockeys Ryan Moore have mainly been on-board Withhold over the last 12 months.

However, Irish jockey Oisin Murphy will ride him this time and he could be a lucky omen.

The only time that Murphy has previously ridden Withhold was in August 2020, where he won by three lengths as he was sent off the 5/4 favourite.

This time he will be more of outside chance for Bloom being priced at 8/1 and will have to get the better of the favourite, Zeeband.

The four-year-old, trained by Roger Varian, appreciated the step up to an extended two miles when winning the consolation race for the Northumberland Plate in smooth fashion.

He put his 18 rivals to the sword, winning by two and a half lengths from Margaret Dumont thanks to a telling turn of foot in the final furlong.

Zeeband has gone up 8lb for that success – but on that display, he looks ahead of the handicapper.
