Crawley manager Steve Evans accused referee Steve Tomlinson of bias towards Woking following a 1-1 draw at Kingsfield.

Evans was furious with the Hampshire official's timekeeping after the home side netted a controversial equaliser in first-half stoppage time.

The fourth official signalled that three minutes would be added for injuries but Marvin Morgan's strike came in the 49th minute.

Evans went berserk and had to be escorted from the pitch by police officers as he tried to confront Tomlinson when the players were walking off for the interval.

He was sent from the dug-out for the second half and was involved in a slanging match with Woking supporters in the stands.

Evans alleges Tomlinson and Cards boss Frank Gray met during the half-time break.

He said: "The referee added three minutes and they scored after three minutes and 40 seconds. He told the players it was all over and then played a minute-and-a-quarter over that period and they got the goal.

"I showed him a stopwatch which is held by the physio and then went down the tunnel and left it at that. Then we understood that he took the opposition manager into his dressing room for a little chat and a cup of tea.

"That is unacceptable so I told the referee what I thought and he told me to go to the stand.

"He certainly played enough time to let them get the goal and gave enough decisions to Woking to make me think that the chat was friendly.

"I am saying that he had a bias towards Woking. He had a horrible day."

Although Evans has a history of overreacting on the sidelines, he certainly had a valid point. The game was in the fourth minute of overtime when Morgan blasted into the roof of the net from close range following a goalmouth scramble. The half-time whistle was then blown at least 30 seconds later.

The only defence for the referee is that the time held up by the fourth official is the MINIMUM that will be added on. Even so, why did he not hold up a number four if that was the amount of time that was going to be played?

Despite Crawley's grievances about the nature of the goal, they can have no argument with the result.

They made the perfect start by taking the lead through former Woking striker Kevin James after 12 minutes and could have doubled it when Jamie Cook missed the ball completely in the area following a corner on the half hour. But apart from those two openings, they struggled going forward and were grateful to have earned a point by the end.

Evans said: "Cook missed the easiest chance you will see in your life but from there on in we didn't play well. We were fortunate to get a draw, we will not kid ourselves."

Up until the disputed leveller, James looked like he was going to grab the headlines. The striker made his first start for Reds just two weeks after leaving Woking and there was an air of inevitability that he would be the man to get on the scoresheet.

He nodded home from close range after good work by Cook and Thomas Pinault and as a mark of respect to his former club refused to celebrate.

However, his contribution was overshadowed by the referee and the antics of Evans on the sidelines, with many supporters in the stand besides the dug-outs spending as much time watching him as the action on the field.

Evans said: "Steve Evans is the same as Alex Ferguson, he is a bad loser. There is nothing wrong with that, it is how you bounce back when you lose, that is the important thing.

"But we didn't get beaten, we have come away and got a point and the fact we go away extremely disappointed shows how far we have come."
