Albion skipper Dean Hammond has completed a £250,000 move to the Championship's bottom club Colchester.
The 24-year-old midfielder cannot make his debut in Saturday's home game against Sheffield United, as he is still serving a three-match suspension arising from his red card for Albion at Oldham earlier this month.
He is expected to make his first appearance for Colchester at Burnley on February 9.
