Crawley 8 Droylsden 0.

Crawley cruised into the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy for the first time after destroying Droylsden.

But the emphatic victory was overshadowed by a serious injury to Jon-Paul Pittman.

The Reds striker clashed heads with defender Lee Roche early in the second half and had to be taken to hospital.

It was the only blemish on an otherwise perfect afternoon for Steve Evans' side.

Reds were on top from the start and could have put the game out of sight within the first 15 minutes.

Winger Mustapha Carayol sent two shots over and another straight at keeper Paul Phillips.

Defender Kieran Murphy then failed to get a connection on a close-range header from a corner when any touch would have resulted in a goal.

Top scorer Jamie Cook managed to get his head on a free kick soon after and nodded just over.

The breakthrough finally came on 17 minutes thanks to Vieira.

Carayol curled a free kick to the far post where Murphy sent the ball back across goal for the Brazilian to scramble home from two yards.

The lead was almost doubled a few minutes later when Jon-Paul Pittman forced a good save from Phillips with a powerful snap-shot.

Droylsden had their first effort at goal on 24 minutes when Jody Banim saw his fizzing free kick deflected over.

The home side were soon back in control and Vieira came within inches of getting another with a looping cross-shot which cannoned off defender Ged Murphy and dipped over.

Crawley killed the visitors off just before half-time with three goals in the space of six minutes.

Cook dived in at the back post to nod home a free kick from Paul Watson on 38 minutes and then converted a penalty moments later after Tyrone Thompson was fouled by Conall Murtagh.

Pittman, back in the side following injury in place of cup-tied Kevin James, added the fourth on the stroke of the interval with an emphatic finish following a solo run.

Play was held up for 30 minutes at the start of the second half following the injury to Pittman.

The striker was left motionless on the floor after colliding with defender Lee Roche and an ambulance had to be called.

Both sets of players went back into the changing rooms until paramedics arrived to stretcher Pittman to hospital.

Reds carried on where they left off when play resumed, with Bulman making it 5-0 within a minute of the restart.

He was sent clear on goal by Cook and beat Phillips from the edge of the box.

The visitors came close to scoring a consolation soon after when keeper Ashley Bayes produced a full-length parry to stop a low drive from Chris Denham.

Vieira added the sixth in the 76th minute with a neat finish following good work from substitute Pierre Joseph-Dubois.

Cook completed his hattrick with a simple tap-in with eight minutes remaining and Vieira completed the rout with a penalty in the last minute after Joseph-Dubois was fouled by Phillips.

The quarter-final draw takes place on Monday.
