Willingdon skipper Joel Craven praised the character of his division one new boys following a tense tied match against Rottingdean in the East Sussex League.

Willingdon were on the brink of defeat when Rottingdean equalled their total of 143 with six overs remaining.

But the Rotters had their final batsman run-out to leave both teams with 20 points. Michael Krause (52) and Duncan Ford (5-56) were the top performers for Willingdon, while Tom Burton took 5-63 and made 44 for Rottingdean.

Craven said: "I have never been involved in a tie before and speaking to Rottingdean's captain, I don't think they had either.

"It was very tense at the end but we showed a lot of character and we were very pleased with how it turned out.

"We got out of jail really because we didn't bat well but luckily our bowling was much better."

The tie keeps newly promoted Willingdon in second place after three games but Craven insists it is too early in the season to be thinking about the title.

He said: "We have only played a few teams so I can't say how we are going to do. When we play the likes of Crowhurst, who are probably the favourites, then we will have a better idea. The target is the top four and we have started fairly well so hopefully we can keep it up."

Iden remain top after thrashing Ditchling by 163 runs. The leaders amassed 251-2 thanks largely to captain David White (111 not out) and Tom Rawstone (53 not out), before Chris Curd took 5-14 to dismiss Ditchling for just 88.

Skipper Glynn Crees scored his maiden century for Ringmer in a draw against Crowhurst Park. He hit 106 to help his side score 120 off the last 20 overs to set a healthy target of 227-5. Park made 219-5 in reply with top scores from Martin Barry (85) and Colin Ayres (66 not out).

Dean Serra (4-90) was the pick of the bowlers for Borderers, who held out for 172-8 with Nick Edwards making 67. Harris (4-39) took the most wickets for Rye.

Battle paid the price for dropped catches in division two as lost by six wickets against leaders Heathfield Park. Battle set a healthy total of 240-6 thanks to 100 not out from Mike Gedye and 54 from Pete Matthews and it looked like being enough when Park were restricted to 144 with 20 overs remaining in reply. Four catches were then dropped, leaving Rocky Robertsham (97) and Chris Hart (79) to help Heathfield past the winning post.

Mike Tingley (45) and Bill Filby (43) top scored as Pevensey put on 249-4 in a 123-run win over Robertsbridge, who were dismissed for 126 after Simon Owen took 4-27.

Utkarsh Tewari impressed with both bat and ball to help St Peter's beat Newick by 122 runs. He top scored with 54 in a declared total of 242-9, before taking 4-38 to leave Newick all out for 120. Harry Birmingham also did well with the ball, taking 5-38.
