Ollie Pearce has been told he is rising to the challenge for Worthing.
His second-half treble completed a 3-1 win at home to Chippenham in Vanarama National League south, Rebels conceded right on half-time but Pearce helped them turn things around.
Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood said: “We know we have got a player who can score goals at this level when he is confident.
“When he is working well for the team and he gets in a good place, there’s not too many people you would rather have in front of goal.
“He didn’t start the season too well in terms of getting minutes but what a response.
“He has scored goals at whatever level we have been at but it’s getting him confident.
“He is working hard. I think since we have lost one or two bigger characters from the team, he has really stood up to that challenge.”
Eastbourne Borough’s game at home to Taunton was abandoned at half-time due to fog.
New boy Louis Collins touched in Borough’s goal after they trailed 2-0.
