Ollie Pearce scored another hat-trick as Worthing won on a day they received three red cards.

Rebels enjoyed a 4-1 success at Weymouth in Vanarama National League south.

They had to defend strongly at various stages having seen Reuben Livesey-Austin sent off on just 14 minutes.

Joel Colbran picked up a second yellow deep in added time, by which point boss Adam Hinshelwood had been sent from the technical area.

His assistant Gary Elphick said: “To go down to ten men so quickly, I felt we showed a lot of resilience, bravery, leadership and resilience which maybe at the start of the season weren’t quite there.

“That to me shows we have made progress.

“It was a really gutsy performance.

“To come away and score four goals is outstanding and I felt we defended very well for large periods of the game.”

Elphick had no complaints over the red card shown for a rash challenge by Livesey-Austin, by which time he had already been involved in the opening goal for Danny Cashman.

Pearce has now scored in nine successive matches – for 17 goals in total. He has 32 in 31 league games this season.

Elphick said: “He has got magic in his boots at the moment and hopefully it continues.”

Eastbourne Borough lost 3-0 at home to Chelmsford, having been goalless at the break.

A bad day was capped by a red card for Alex Finney, making his first appearance since the end of September.

Borough remain six points from safety and the result appears to put even more importance on Tuesday’s game at home to Havant and Waterlooville, one of only two teams below them in the table.
