Worthing Raiders 19 Henley 29

Worthing were unable to convert important scoring chances as they fell on the road to a Henley side fighting towards the top of the table.

Second half tries from Curtis Barnes, Ben Featherstone and Harrison Sims were not enough to overturn a 26-point deficit as Raiders eventually fell to a 29-19 defeat.

Unable to capitalise on good attacking positions, Worthing continue to fight at the bottom of the table with just a handful of games left.

Raiders looked close to drawing first blood but an attacking error saw the ball turned over with Henley punishing the visitors with a converted try.

The hosts went on to score two more tries within half an hour to take the lead to 19-0.

Raiders played expansive rugby and created good attacking positions and chances to score. But real scoring opportunities were stifled by strong Henley defence and scrummaging.

Raiders were unable to find their first score before the break despite being camped in Henley territory and, despite further threatening attacks, Henley extended their lead to 26-0 for their own bonus point.

Raiders played catch-up and built pressure for three scores from Barnes, Featherstone and Sims.

Despite being on the verge of a bonus point, a late Henley penalty saw the visitors heading home empty handed.

Chichester took maximum points from their home game against Farnham to secure their place in the league with three matches to spare.

A 36-22 win saw five tries for the Blues as winger Josaia Korobiau scored a splendid double to help the hosts ease to victory.

Despite taking a convincing lead into half-time the hosts faltered slightly in the second period but held on to take an important five points.

Chichester took an early lead from a penalty and, after 12 minutes, the blues pushed forward from a lineout.

Full back Rhys Thompson chipped into empty space for Korobiau who used his pace to round the defence for an easy first score.

Farnham went on the attack and capitalised on a Chichester infringement for a quick tap score.

After being frustrated at the try line, lock Owen Tucker broke past a tackler and thundered under the posts to extend the hosts’ lead.

Tries from speedy winger Joel Andrews and Huw Binfield before the break extended the lead to 29-5 and Chichester looked in the ascendency.

But the Blues lost momentum in the second half and strong forwards play saw Farnham score their second try of the game shortly after the break.

Farnham threatened to score again but an interception by Korobiau saw the winger race away for a 70m score to stifle the visitors’ momentum.

With a bonus point victory in hand, Chichester conceded a third try when Farnham mauled over the whitewash from a lineout.

Despite strong backs play, Chichester saw themselves reduced to 14 men after an illegal tackle and, after relenting to more Farnham pressure, conceded their fourth try of the match to leave the score at 36-22.
