Albion were well beaten at home by Arsenal.

We asked these long-time fans for their thoughts on the 3-0 defeat.

Then we looked ahead. Is Europe drifting away or should we expect a big finish to the season?

1. What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance versus Arsenal?

James Heasman: I genuinely felt we had a chance, particularly in the first half when we seemed to have a better rhythm in our play. The penalty was debatable, but given the type of challenge, it was always unlikely to be overturned. The second half we were incredibly sloppy, poor passing, defensively all over the place, and this culminated with Enciso's contribution on the second goal. Our build-up as per the Brentford game was ponderous at best, and quite predictable.

Tim Ayling: Difficult to say as Arsenal were very good, but it’s disappointing how we no longer look like the free-scoring side we once were. More than anything, we’re missing Mitoma and March and their dribbling skills.

2. Who stood out for you from the Albion team?

James Heasman: Nobody really. Bart Verbruggen made some good saves, but he was also indecisive at times and seemed to make a meal of some routine saves. Baleba had a good first half, ordinary second. Moder had his moments in the first half but was then anonymous. I suppose if pushed I'd give it to Lewis Dunk, who gave great display of passing.

Tim Ayling: Tough one to pick! Bart made some good saves despite conceding three, and Baleba did well at times. But Arsenal were just better.

3. Does it feel like the season is starting to fizzle out – or are we in for a big finish ?

James Heasman: Fizzle out. The defeats at Luton, Fulham, Roma and Wolves in the FA Cup finished our season. The first three of those seemed almost a replica of each other, and worryingly we did not seem to learn anything from a defensive shape perspective, and that is down to the coaching team, not the owner! However, despite all the injuries we remain a good team, so you never know, we just need some inspiration from somewhere.

Tim Ayling: It does a little. We have to aim for eighth, but it’s a huge effort now. Having said that, the extra games for Baleba and the other youngsters should set us up nicely for next season. My wallet and liver could do with a rest from the European trips anyway!
