Roberto De Zerbi said his latest teen debutant deserved a chance to make his Premier League bow.
Mark O’Mahony, 19, was sent on late in the 1-1 draw at Burnley.
The Irish striker signed a new contract in the last week.
Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “He has an incredible behaviour, an incredible attitude.
“When I saw Joao Pedro with cramp, I didn’t want to take a risk with him and we have on the bench one goalscorer, one striker.”
“It is not important how old he is.
“The striker was Mark and I gave him the chance to play. He deserved to play.”
