Albion back-up goalkeeper Katie Startup will be pitched into the WSL title race.

She has signed an emergency loan deal with Manchester City as the leaders suffer a keeper crisis.

City are three points clear of Chelsea having played one game more.

But Khiara Keating and Sandy MacIver have had knee probems while Ellie Roebuck is also absent.

Interim Albion head coach Mikey Harris said: "This is a great opportunity for Katie to help Manchester City and be part of the Women’s Super League title race.

"Katie is a fantastic person and professional, with an excellent work ethic and determination both on and off the pitch.

“I’ve no doubt she will be a big asset for City during the run-in.

“We will be monitoring her progress for the remainder of the season.

“We wish her the best of luck and look forward to welcoming her back to the club having had a positive experience which will benefit her in the future.”

Albion first choice Sophie Baggaley has been arguably her team’s best player this season while Melina Loeck, the German goalkeeper signed in mid-season, has been on the bench with Startup in recent weeks.

Harris and his squad are now preparing to face Everton at the Amex on Friday.
