Glenn Murray says new signings believe they can make serious progress with Albion – and not use the club purely as a stepping stone.

The Seagulls are developing young talent from overseas as they bid to maintain a place in the Premier League top ten.

Former striker Murray says foreign players have a different idea of what the Seagulls can offer to a few years ago.

Speaking on the club’s official podcast, Murray said: “That is something I saw as a player.

“Early in the Premier League we would get players from lesser European leagues and they wouldn’t know any of the players.

“They would think they were going to be the best player and were going to step up to maybe not a top six club but to an historic English football club – and that just wasn’t the case.

“I’ve seen it change hugely. No longer are we a stepping stone club.

“We are a club where you can play for your national team, where you can progress your career.

“Yes, obviously there are always going to be bigger clubs than us but I think generally players who sign for Brighton are content here for longer.”

Murray was speaking with podcast guest Paul Barber, the club’s chief executive and deputy chairman, who believes playing in the Europa League has done wonders for Albion's standing.

Barber said: “Winning five of our eight games in Europe, I think that opened a few eyes.

“Going around the draws and meeting some of the bigger clubs in Europe, coming up and saying it’s incredible what Brighton are doing, there was a level of respect that I think took us by surprise.

“We are talking about some of the biggest names in Europe who were making these comments.”
