Albion will name their player of the year at the Amex this evening.

The award will be the crowning moment of a gala occasion at the stadium.

Fans have been voting for their goal of the season – for both men’s and women’s teams.

Elisabeth Terland looks a hot favourite to win the women’s player of the season trophy.

As for the men’s prize, history tells us the electorate tend to go for defenders and industrious midfielders.

Previous winners in the Amex era are Liam Bridcutt (twice), Matthew Upson, Inigo Calderon, Beram Kayal, Anthony Knockaert, Pascal Gross, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk, Ben White, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo.

The last three winners have moved on to new clubs immediately after their prize-winning seasons.

Here is a look at top contenders this year, listed purely  in order of squad number.

Lewis Dunk: Another solid season for the skipper, who won the award four years ago, which was also recognised on the international stage.

Joao Pedro: Top scorers do not tend to win this award but this has been an impressive step up from the Championship and he has been among his side’s most dangerous players, as well as reaching the 20-goal mark.

Billy Gilmour: A highly progressive season for the midfielder and is perhaps one to look out for in the placings, if not top spot.

Pascal Gross: A bit like Dunk, he has been doing what he does for so long that it can be easy to overlook. But this has been his best season yet in terms of making goals and chances so he could repeat his success of 2017-18.

Simon Adingra: It is easy to forget this is his first Premier League season and that he began it on the bench, starting just two of the first ten games. He has often been his side’s greatest provider of wing threat.

Jan Paul van Hecke: A breakout campaign for the Dutch defender. Told last Friday that many fans had voted for van Hecke, Roberto De Zerbi said: “Yes I agree! I love JP. He is one of my best improvements in terms of players. JP & Billy Gilmour are big satisfaction for me. Their attitude, behaviour, passion to improve has been incredible. He deserves to be player of the season."

The awards night will be streamed live via Albion's website.
