Albion chief Micky Adams has revealed plans to add creativity to his squad.

The transfer window closes at the end of the month and Adams wants another player who can unlock a defence after Darren Currie rejected a summer return to the Seagulls by opting for Chesterfield instead.

With Kevin McLeod injured and Dean Cox off-key, the Seagulls struggled to break down Bristol Rovers in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Withdean.

Adams said: “We are on the lookout for a type of player. Let’s just say we are looking for a bit of creativity. That could land in our lap or we could have to go and find somebody.

“As yet it hasn’t landed in our lap and we haven’t found one so that is an ongoing situation.”

McLeod faces a race to be fit for Friday’s trip to Southend. The former Colchester winger is progressing after a scan showed a partial medial ligament tear and bone bruising to the left knee, sustained in last week’s Carling Cup win against Barnet.

Gary Hart suffered a reaction to a knee problem against Rovers but Adams said: “That is nothing new at his time of life. He rests and plays.”

Adam El-Abd is on the road to recovery from a thigh strain but young back-up striker Sam Gargan has picked up a hip injury during his loan spell at Havant and Waterlooville.

Left wing trialist Jack Compton features in a reserve team friendly at Havant tonight (7.45pm). The former Portsmouth and West Brom trainee is the son of ex-Torquay stalwart Paul Compton.

Albion Reserves: Sullivan; Fogden, Pearson, Lynch, Mayo; Robinson, Fraser, Loft, Compton; Louis, Dixon.
