Glenn Murray has vowed to get back on the goal trail for Albion following the first red card of his career.

Murray returns to the attack at Southend tonight after sitting out last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Bristol Rovers through suspension.

The former Rochdale marksman, sent-off against Barnet in the Carling Cup, is content with his form and supporting role for partner Nicky Forster, despite not adding yet to his nine goals in 20 starts last season.

“I am happy,” Murray said. “I haven’t got a goal yet but I’ve set three up. I feel pretty confident that the first goal will come eventually.

“It feels longer than it actually is, because I was banned on Saturday, so it is only two games. It is always at the back of your mind as a striker but I am very confident it will come. It isn’t worrying me at all at the moment.”

Murray, normally mild-mannered, saw red against Barnet in the closing stages for kicking the ball away when he had already been booked. “I did kick it away but I didn’t kick it off the pitch or anything like that,” he said. “It was more a case of kicking it back to their defence. I think it was a bit harsh but that is just the way it goes.

“I found watching pretty difficult. It was just frustrating to be sitting in the stands when you could be helping out your team-mates, instead of just sitting twiddling your thumbs.”

Boss Micky Adams is backing Murray, on target in two of his last three away games, to find the net soon. “He needs a goal, like all centre forwards do, but I don’t want him to be paranoid about it,” Adams said.

“He is doing enough with the ball and without the ball. “I certainly believe the players we have got will create chances for him and he will stick them away.”
