Pease Pottage boss Paul Sargeant is delighted with the way his young side is shaping up.

Pottage made it three wins out of four with a 4-3 success away to local rivals Ifield Edwards in division three of the County League on Saturday.

Goals from Andy Clowe (two), Doug Saunders and Dave Houlders earned victory for Pottage who finished the game with six players aged 19 or under.

They also ended with Houlders in goal after regular keeper Jamie Skates went off with a foot injury.

Sargeant took over in the summer following Pottage’s relegated from division two and was forced to build a new team.

He said: “I inherited five players from last season. We haven’t got the spending power of others. We are paying our players nothing. My team is made up of young lads, reserve team players and people who have a point to prove.

“I would be happy to finish top six this season. When you bring 30-odd players into a club you cannot expect them to gel and win the league in one season.”

Clive Piller (two) and Andy Dhiman replied for Ifield Edwards who remain bottom of the table.

Leaders Clymping lost 3-2 at home to Broadbridge Heath, for whom Damon Aston, Warren Sweatman and Matt Butler found the net. The hosts scored through an own goal and Joe Shelley.

Little Common took over at the top after winning 3-2 at Bosham with goals from Lewis Hole, Cliff MacDonald and Stuart Weston.

Uckfield are third, just a point behind the leaders, after scoring twice in the last five minutes to beat Dorking Wanderers 4-3. On target were Gary Rook (two), Chris Hickman and substitute Ben Elsey while Leroy Hyett (two) and Dan Jolliffe netted for Dorking.

Adam Howman’s goal looked to be sending Newhaven to victory at Haywards Heath but Day struck two minutes from time to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Forest won 2-1 at Rottingdean Village with goals from Grant Miller and Dan Dalton. Andy Potter hit a late consolation.

Martin Hurley’s first-half penalty earned Hurstpierpoint their first win of the season, beating Saltdean 1-0.
