Paul Faili is not getting carried away despite seeing his Three Bridges side go top of the table.

Bridges took over at the summit after beating previous leaders Ringmer 2-0 in a cracking game at the Jubilee Field thanks to goals from Carl Dunk and Dean Wright.

Boss Faili said: “We will see how long it lasts because other teams have games in hand on us. It might all be different by next week but it’s nice to have the points on the board.

“What pleased me was the performance and the mental attitude of my players. Being top is nice but it is not in our hands.”

Dunk capped a fine display by volleying in the first on 43 minutes and Wright made it 2-0 17 minutes from time after good work from James Grant.

Faili added: “Carl Dunk was tireless in his movement up front, Joel O’Hara dominated midfield and Mark Zydonik was solid as a rock at the back. That gave us a spine and the rest of the players came up to the standard.”

Ringmer remain second because the only team among the chasing pack to win was Redhill who beat Hailsham 3-1 to go third.

Goals came from Wes Harrison, Andrew Dalhouse and substitute Marcel Dennis with his first touch. Manager Stuart McIntyre said: “We played really well and reacted well to a couple of bad results.”

Horsham YMCA and Wick shared a 2-2 draw with Matt Geard twice putting the hosts ahead only for Wick to level on each occasion through Chris Clark and Daren Pearce.

YM boss Chris White said: “We can’t hold on to a lead at the moment but in truth it was a fair result.”

Eastbourne United and St Francis Rangers also shared four goals with defender Lucas Mann grabbing an equaliser for the hosts seven minutes from time after being thrown up front. Simon Stevens put United ahead but goals from Chris Maynard and Sam Palmer turned the game on its head until Mann popped up with his ninth of the season late on.

United boss Brian Dennis said: “I was disappointed we didn’t win but from being 2-1 down with ten minutes to go I am quite grateful for a point.”

The most honest manager of the day was Pagham’s Gary Block whose side salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to Whitehawk after Brett Forden’s controversial penalty cancelled out an Aaron Gunn opener.

Block said: “It was never a penalty. Our players all turned to walk away, which is normally a tell-tale sign, but we will take it. We probably deserved something out of the game but not that way.”

John Suter’s first game as Worthing United manager ended in a 4-0 defeat at home to Chichester but the Mavericks kept it goalless until half-time.

Suter had players who wanted to follow him from Hassocks, from where he was sacked this week, but they were not allowed to.

He said: “We only had 12 players and the reserves went with ten so it is a club in crisis but there were some good attitudes.

“My disappointment is there are players who are looking to play for Worthing United who are not being allowed to play for Worthing United. When you can only muster 22 players for two teams that is accentuated by clubs’ refusal to let players go.

“This will be a very difficult job. I was well aware of that before I started but it is not helped by the attitudes of other senior clubs.”

Suter’s former club Hassocks beat Midhurst 2-1 in the Sussex RUR Cup with goals from Laurence Robinson and Anthony Hibbert.

In the John O’Hara League Cup, extra time goals from Liam Buchan and player-boss Lee Butcher helped Oakwood beat Shoreham 2-1.

Alex McEwan and Dan Sullivan netted as East Grinstead won 2-0 at Bexhill and Howard Neighbour scored two in Arundel’s 3-1 win at Crawley Down.
