Pagham are back in the thick of the title race after toppling leaders Ringmer.

The Lions won 3-2 to go level on points with Ringmer in an increasingly competitive title race.

Just three points seperate the top nine clubs after Wick and Horsham YMCA kept themselves in contention with victories.

Brett Forden, Michael Frangou and Rob Wimble were on target for Pagham with Joe Dryer twice netting for the hosts.

Pagham boss Gary Block said: “It was a fantastic result, we were the better side and it was nice that our strikers (Forden and Wimble) both scored a goal.

“I think both sides could still be in contention for the title. We’re happy with how we are doing at this stage of the season.”

Wick are up to third, a point behind the table-toppers, but their 3-0 home win over East Grinstead was marred by an injury to Phil Turner.

The midfielder suffered a suspected broken ankle in the first half and the game was held up for 40 minutes while an ambulance arrived.

Wick led 2-0 thanks to a double from Steve Davies and Julian Curnow’s second-half header condemned Grinstead to a sixth successive defeat. They lost goalkeeper Lee Whibley to injury which meant defender Marc Pelling had to go in goal.

Paul Elliott scored a superb opener for YM with a curling left-foot effort but Wayne Robinson (2) and Wes Harrison appeared to have put the home side in charge.

Matt Geard’s double levelled it up before Elliott got his second ten minutes from time.

YM boss Chris White said: “We had a mad spell when we didn’t defend properly. We were a bit shellshocked at half-time but I still felt we could get something out of the game.

“It’s put us in a decent position in the league because we have games in hand. It looks a really open title race this year.”

Chichester’s Ben Vassallo scored a first-half hat-trick but still ended up on the losing side as Lingfield won 4-3 at Oaklands Park.

Chi started the game with nine players because of the late arrival of a carload of players and were soon trailing to goals from Danny Gillard and Sam McCarthy.

Vassallo turned it round before the break but Gillard equalised before Paddani Oritis got Lingfield’s winner.

East Preston moved out of the bottom two after they came from behind to beat St Francis Rangers 3-2.

Chris Maynard put Saints in front but Terry Dodd struck twice, including a free-kick, to put EP in front by half-time.

An own goal made it 2-2 before Chris Darwin rewarded concerted pressure with a 72nd-minute winner.

EP boss Trevor Waller said: “I felt we deserved to win. It was a good game of football despite the conditions and a decent start to an important month for us.

“The youngsters in the team are learning all the time and we’re looking to keep climbing the table. We’ve got big games against Oakwood and Hailsham coming up and we fancy ourselves to give anyone a game at the moment.”

The games at Eastbourne United and Worthing United were abandoned because of waterlogged pitches.

Selsey will entertain Lewes in the third round of the Senior Cup after Calum Britton’s second-half hat-trick earned them a 3-1 home win over Peacehaven.

Phil Rhodes earned Rye a replay with a 118th-minute equaliser in their League Cup tie against Three Bridges, which finished 2-2. Rye played for most of the game with ten men after goalkeeper Jani Seitsonen was sent off for handling outside his area.
