Chris Breach headed home his first goal for the club as Lewes made it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

The centre back scored with 20 minutes remaining as the Rooks won 1-0 at home to troubled Weymouth.

They survived a number of chances from the Terras, who have now lost 11 league games on the trot.

There was also a first-half penalty miss as Rikki Banks saved from Stephen Reed.

Lewes made three changes to the team that beat Altrincham last Saturday, including handing a debut on the left-side of midfield to teenager Geoff Banks-Smith who who is on work experience from Brentford.

Anthony Barness returned from suspension at centre back to replace skipper Danny Cullip, who has begun a two-match ban, while Grant Hall came in at right-back for Josh Jirbandey.

Weymouth went into the game having not scored for 592 minutes but they created a number of chances in the opening 45 minutes.

On 12 minutes Ben Gill played the ball dangerously across goal but Cliff Akurang was unable to convert from six yards.

Three minutes later Akurang broke in the inside-left channel and his cross-shot was touched away for a corner by Banks.

The Terras were awarded a soft penalty on 18 minutes after Anthony Barness tangled with Akurang but Reed's spot-kick was saved by Banks.

Banks was inspired again two minutes later, touching over a 25-yard strike from Reed, who found more venom than he did with the penalty.

It took Lewes 35 minutes to create a chance of note, Michael Standing picking out Banks-Smith who ran on and fired just over the bar.

Weymouth had another great opportunity just before the break but James Coutts lifted his shot over the bar from eight yards with Banks scrambling.

The second half started in similar fashion and there was another let-off for Lewes on 53 minutes. Gavin Hoyte flicked on a corner to the back post where Akurang bundled it against the woodwork before Banks collected the ball on the line.

The hosts responded with Luke Rooney firing into the side-netting after working an opening.

Having weathered the pressure for the first hour, Lewes opened up and took the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Michael Standing played a short corner to Rooney who did fantastically well to cross from the byline to the back post where Breach headed home.

The momentum had shifted and moments later substitute Ross Sutton blasted a shot into the side-netting.

Weymouth responded by throwing on an extra forward for a defender but Lewes were now looking resolute at the back.

Akurang had a chance with three minutes remaining but headed wide.

Weymouth's miserable afternoon was completed three minutes into stoppage time when player-coach was sent off for a second bookable offence following a foul on Ryan Storrie.

The Lewes performance was nowhere near as good as the previous week against Altrincham but the home fans in a crowd of 456 were not complaining.
