Ten-man Albion suffered humiliation in Yorkshire tonight as they were humbled 7-1 by rampant Huddersfield.

What had seemed a comfortable start by the Seagulls against one of League One's big guns was left in tatters when Antony Kay arrived late in trademark style to head the opener on 21 minutes.

Albion replied in stunning fashion with Liam Dickinson unleashing a superb angled volley past a startled Alex Smithies from Andrew Crofts' knock down on 34 minutes.

Parity last just 90 seconds as Peter Clarke prodded home from a low cross to restore the home lead.

Then a woeful back pass by Adam El-Abd led to the incident which left the Seagulls in dire trouble.

Lee Novak raced clear and went tumbling under the challenge of keeper Michel Kuipers.

Despite Kuipers' claims that Novak had dived, ref Neil Swarbrick felt otherwise, awarded the penalty and showed the keeper the red card.

A furious Kuipers had be restrained by team mates as he protested his innocence.

Debutant Jamie Smith, who had made a very bright start, went off to be replaced by Greame Smith, who was immediately booked after grabbing the ball off the spot.

As things at last calmed down, Novak coolly rolled home from the spot.

Huddersfield had another penalty seven minutes into the second period after Andrew Whing fouled Jordan Rhodes just inside the box.

There were no protests this time but Graeme Smith stifled home cheers by superbly saving Rhodes' spot kick diving to his left.

It was by no means an end to the punishment, though.

Subs Theo Robinson (2) and Danny Drinkwater both scored, as did Gary Roberts, as Huddersfield repeatedly broke through in a one-sided second half.

Drinkwater also hit the post on an embarrassing night for the Seagulls.
